Renting a raclette oven in Switzerland: providers, prices, terms
Short answer: leaving turbo ovens aside, most commercial providers on this page charge CHF 42.– to 55.– to rent a raclette oven (checked 1.11.2026) [2][4][5][8], and several cheese dairies lend one free if you buy the cheese from them [7][9][11].
Few households buy a half-wheel scraping oven (Abstreichofen) or a turbo oven for 100 guests. In Switzerland, cheese dairies, dairy shops and rental firms hire them out. With many of them, the oven is free if you buy the cheese from them.
Prices are taken from the providers' websites, last checked on 1.11.2026. Prices and terms can change at any time.
Which oven for how many guests?
Figures from Seiler Käse [1]:
| Oven | Capacity | Portions per hour | Operated by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Table grill (electric) | 6 small pans of about 30 g | about 180 | 1–6 people or guests |
| Scraping oven (electric) | 1–2 half wheels | about 40 | 1–2 people |
| Scraping oven (gas) | 1 half wheel | about 60 | 1–2 people |
| Turbo oven (gas or electric) | 6 long pans of about 100 g | up to about 300 | 2 people |
What that means in practice: an electric scraping oven makes about 40 portions an hour [1]. 80 portions therefore take two hours with one oven, or one hour with two.
For the amount of cheese, see Raclette: how much cheese and how many potatoes per person?. At Seiler, a round half wheel weighs about 2.7 kg and a square one about 3.3 kg [1].

Things to check
- Order early in December: in November and December, Seiler needs your order at least 4 working days before collection, otherwise 3 [1]. For the holidays, see Raclette at Christmas and New Year's Eve.
- Gas is often not included: at Seiler, the gas bottles for the turbo and gas scraping ovens are not part of the rental [1].
- Gas outdoors: the Swissmilk rental service advises against using the Tenag gas oven indoors [2]. MIBA rents electric ovens for indoor use and gas ovens for outdoors [8].
- Check the power supply: Seiler's turbo oven needs 2 × 2.2 kW (220–230 V, three-pin plug) [1]. The MIBA turbo has two heating coils of 2200 W each, 230 V / 10 A [8].
- Minimum cheese purchase: a free or cheap rental usually comes with buying cheese. At MIBA that is 6 kg or 20 kg [8]; at Lanz the turbo is free from 20 kg [7].
- Returning cheese: Seiler takes back unopened wheels and half wheels in November and December only [1]. Other providers may differ.
- Cleaning: catering-miete.ch wants the devices back clean [5]. MIBA will do the cleaning on request [8], and at Chäsgiele it is part of the package [10]. At Seiler the deposit is refunded only for a clean oven [11].
Rent or buy?
Renting a scraping oven costs CHF 45.– per week (rentshop, incl. VAT) or CHF 48.– per rental (MIBA, VAT not stated), as of 1.11.2026 [4][8], and often nothing if you buy the cheese [1][7]. Purchase prices and models are in our guide Buying a raclette oven.
